Free City, Truce - Fountain
A tiered fountain marks the center of Truce, water gushing from its
summit and trickling into a deep, wide basin, wrapped by a ring of benches.
Roads flow like rivers away from the fountain, and houses sprout like weeds
all around them. Not far to the east, the ocean roars in the harbor.

Kyuubey comes in from the western avenue, looking a little bit worn out. He looks like he's been travelling. A lot. Without rest. Despite the subtle haggardness of his appearance, he keeps a steady pace up toward the fountain, where he hops up to the lower basin and lowers his face into the water, beginning a steady lap to drink.
Action forced.

In stark contrast to Kyuubey, a rather energetic Spitfire's gliding down from the sky, alighting on the rim of the fountain lightly and flaring her wings as she turns to face the pseudo-feline.

Kyuubey continues drinking, obviously aware of the new presence nearby, but not showing any care or consideration; he's thirsty, and that's all that matters at the moment. His tail curls about his back feet as he drinks, but that's all.

Spitfire says 'Been having a rough time, taking care of things?'

Kyuubey finishes at his own pace, sitting upright and proceeding to wash his face with a paw, leisurely, speaking in between strokes. "I do what needs to be done. This is my purpose in life."

Spitfire says 'I can understand that, in a way. My purpose is to spread joy and happiness, but also to fight - and kill, if need be. I'm a soldier.'

Kyuubey continues washing his face. "Everyone's is different. But your reasonings for doing what you do are of no consequence to me. I have no notions of happiness or joy, so this does little for me."

Kyuubey finally finishes, and turns to face Spitfire, licking his face the way cats do. "Frankly, and if I may take a rare moment to express contempt, I'm growing weary of seeing your kind around, lately. Each one of you that I see seems more of a waste of time than the last. Granted, I could do nothing with the Grief Seed I left behind that evening, but I also sensed the lack of a presence that could've helped the situation considerably."

Kyuubey says 'I'm tempted to contact Kyrk and let him have his way with her. He'll straighten her values out, I wager.'

At this, Spitfire's expression turns unreadable. "I won't pretend not to understand why you're feeling contempt. And I also won't try to convince you that I'm any better than the bearers of the Elements of Harmony or ask that I be given a chance as a Wishborn. Just understand that, unlike them, I take whatever duty I'm given far more seriously. I understand what warfare is like."

Spitfire says 'Do what you feel is best to make the bearer of Generosity understand just how grave the situation really is. I certainly would, if she were one of my subordinates.'

Kyuubey says 'In most situations, the culling of a potential threat is one of our most desirable solutions. If Rarity continues down this path and continues to shirk her duties, Kyrk will see to it that she doesn't need to worry about it any longer. We don't generally have to worry about the dead.'

Kyuubey seems fairly serious, despite his catlike features. He's giving the impression that this isn't the first time he's come to this conclusion, either.

Spitfire says 'This, in and of itself, is true of any conflict. A true soldier understands what his or her duties are, and doesn't neglect to carry them out, even if that involves using lethal means to accomplish them. The Elements are not a part of any military unit, so they cannot understand the true nature of what it means to have to kill or be killed.'

Kyuubey says 'I don't know this without action. Trust in words is not a solid concept for my kind; the fact that I have not been shown proof of your kind's capabilities is warranting enough for me. Most people don't take to the notion of assuming guilt by association, but these values don't apply to me. I've been unimpressed enough by your equine sistren that my doubts are too high to think you would do any better than she would.'

Kyuubey says 'If you're serious about your convictions, I encourage you to seek out those who already bear my contracts. Ask them for advice, what it takes, what it entails. Find out the truth, and then come find me, once you have their belief. They've been at this the longest, and I trust their judge in characters. They live nearby, so this task should not be difficult.'

Spitfire says 'Very well. I shall speak with them, and gain a better understanding of the duty I seek to carry before speaking to you again.'

Kyuubey nods slightly. "A good choice. In the meantime, I have other things I need to do. I don't see your chances as high, but in the event that you do come back, I'll see what can be done. In the meantime, do try to stay alive. The world is a harsh place, as many have found out."

Kyuubey hops down from the fountain basin, and pads off toward the north, tail waving about in the air behind him, rather haughtily.
