Kimen yawned and rubbed his eyes, it had been a mildly warm pleasant
sort of day and he just woken up from a nice mid-afternoon nap
underneath the pier. Now thirsty, he made his way towards the
fountain, still fairly groggy.

Kent paced back and forth, still holding his sword from the previous
night. It would appear he's been here the whole night, staring into
the fountains waters from which he came from. Listening closely you
could hear him muttering small questions such as 'where am I?' and
'Why?'

Kimen didn’t even notice Kent at first when she approached the
fountain, as she passed right in front of his path and made her way to
the waters edge. She dipped her hand into the water, taking a few
small (if slurpy) sips before splashing the cool water into her face.

Kent noticed the child, and was knocked out of his seemingly
trance-like state. The warrior stumbled around on his feet a bit
before regaining his balance, and finally sheathed his sword. He
looked at the sky, shielding his eyes from the sun with his hand. "Is
it truly morning? I appear to have lost track of time"

The child blinked the water from his eyelashes and turned around,
staring at the warrior and slowly beginning to recognize him. When did
he get there? "No, more like approaching 4:00pm or so. Getting closer
to dinner time!" It was a guess. It wasn't as though Kimen had a watch
on him. "Have you been out here all day like this Mr. Kent?"

Kent sighed, "I suppose I have." He finally realized how tired he was,
and sat down by the edge of the fountain, looking around for
information. "Truce," He said, looking at a sign. "What can you tell
me of this place, child?"

Kimen hopped up onto the ledge of the fountain standing with her arms
held out for balance, "Not much. I have only been in this town for a
few days. I've just kind of been wandering about until now, you know."
She teetered a little, almost losing her balance as she flailed her
arms about. Luckily she managed to regain it again quickly. "It seems
to have a lot of people here though."

The warrior smiled as he saw the child play around the fountain. It
has been too long since he's seen a happy child. The last towns he's
been in they were either scared or dead. Not a pretty sight. "You seem
to like it here, though.," Kent said, making polite conversation.

Kimen started walking along the ledge, occasionally feeling brave
enough to test his balance and make a small jump or dip. "Its not too
bad. Lot of interesting people and places to see. You just have to
occasionally put up with a creature wanting to chew on you in
between." Kimen laughed.

Kent tensed after hearing that last comment, and his hand jumped to
his sword, though he stopped himself from drawing it. "I'm sorry if I
scared you." he said, referencing how quickly he reached for the
blade, "My profession requires me to be on guard for such creatures. I
think the last one I fought sent me here..."

"Eep!" Kimen yelped as she saw the man reach for his sword, and again
the child swung her arms about. There was no recovering this time,
though rather than fall into the fountain Kimen resorted to hopping
down from its ledge. "But I never said there were any monsters about
right now, Mr. Kent. This place is pretty safe compared to outside of
its walls." The way the kid said it made it almost seem as though she
was about to tear up.

"Calm thineself, child," Kent said to Kimen, "Unless you're a demon's
plaything, I mean you no harm." Kent drew his sword as slowly as he
could and began polishing it with a bit of his cloak in order to keep
his hands busy. Priorities needed to be set soon, food, water,
shelter, and... "Would you happen to have a tinderbox? My matches were
soaked in the fountain."

Kimen shook his head and frowned, keeping his eye on the warrior's
blade all the while he polished it. "I'm afraid not. I haven’t had any
matches on me since I left that village just south of here." He
admitted.

Kent looked disappointed. "Very well then. Do people come out of this
fountain fairly often, or am I the first?"

Kimen stretched, trying to allow herself to relax a little. "Actually
yeah! I mean, I haven't really seen it happen until you showed up but
I heard that a lot of people and places around here just randomly seem
to fall from the sky." It was like this place was a giant magnet of
some sort. Or at least that is how Kimen interpreted it.

Kent paused to contemplate this predicament. "How very odd," He
stated, “to live in a town where that's a normality. Usually that's
witchcraft." Kent stood back up, and stared into the waters further.
"Has anyone ever gone back?"

Kimen considered the question for a moment, folding one of his arms
and tapping his finger lightly against his chin, "A lot of people have
tried to find a way back but I have never actually heard of anyone
succeeding." He shrugged grinning at the man, "then again, do you
think they would send a message to tell us if they did? I don't think
anyone from any world was ever truly aware this place existed until
they found themselves here. It would probably make communication
between places difficult..." Kimen paused, considering something.

Kent took his sword and pokes the water. Nothing happened. He swirled
it around, trying to draw every holy, magical, or even demonic symbol
he could in the water. Again, nothing happened. "I was fighting a
demon when I was sent here. I don't know if it's what I did, or if
it's something the hell spawn did, but I still want it's head."

"Hmm." Kimen responded, closing her eyes. There was something tugging
on her memory. Hadn't she heard some stories somewhere? It seemed like
a good while ago but there had been something. In a book maybe? OH
YES! The library! There was a collection of stories about how people
entered this place and some of them... "Uh... Was it a really, really
powerful demon?" Kimen asked, looking a little worried.

Kent looked at the child, perhaps she'd like to hear the tale. "Ahh
yes. The great demon Lord Dolor. Grief and Pain." Kent sheathed his
sword. " went into a village, and they-" His stomach growled, he'd
been up pacing all night. "Perhaps another time, Kimen. I must fetch
myself a meal. I haven't eaten in a day."

Kimen nodded, "Alright then Mr. Kent." He waved at the man, the
worried expression quickly transforming to a smile. "Guess I'll see
you around!"
