Free City, Truce - Fountain
A tiered fountain marks the center of Truce, water gushing from its
summit and trickling into a deep, wide basin, wrapped by a ring of benches.
Roads flow like rivers away from the fountain, and houses sprout like weeds
all around them. Not far to the east, the ocean roars in the harbor.

A small white cat-like creature pads in from the southern venue of
Truce, tail raised in apparent aloofness as it comes to a stop behind
the fountain, looking upwards leisurely at the bubbling water.

Heyan tries to catch the cat.

Lenai sleeps soundly on a bench, still missing any form of pants.

The cat-creature jumps up to the basin's rim, sitting upright and
curling its tail about itself, attentively.

Heyan grins evilly.

Heyan says ' It's even easier this way.'

Heyan tries to push the cat in the fountain water.

The cat lithely dodges, stepping on Heyan's head as he pushes forward
and jumping to safety a short distance away.

Lenai nods awake and yawns, looking around the area. "Hm...? I don't
remember going to sleep in Truce..."

Kyuubey says 'Mind yourself, please. I'm not here for your amusement.'

Heyan falls into the fountain.

Lenai says ' Hm..? I recognize... That voice...'

Lenai yawns and sits up, rubbing her eyes, looking over toward Kyuubey.

Kyuubey looks up at Lenai, passively. He doesn't say anything.

Lenai says ' You.. *yawwwwwwn* Tricked me..!'

Kyuubey says 'I haven't the faintest idea of what you mean. I'm not
even sure I know who you are.'

Lenai says ' ...You gave me a... Wish... You terrible little...'

Lenai dozes off, and sits there for a moment, head hung down.

Lenai SNAPS back awake, eyes wide. "CAT!"

Kyuubey looks at Lenai pointedly, his tail waving back and forth a
little. Still, he says nothing.

Lenai yawns and rubs her eyes. "Why are you giving... People wishes...
And tearing their souls out...?"

Kyuubey says 'I am doing nothing of the sort. I am encouraging people
to use their souls for more than they might do, otherwise. I give
them an incentive to flavor their power with anything the desire. How
much better of a deal could one ask for?'

Kyuubey seems genuinely curious of this. It SOUNDS like a good deal,
why wouldn't it be?

Lenai says ' ...Whether or not... It's a good deal... You're lying
about the... Details... To everyone..!'

Lenai pulls out her Pillow Buster.

Kyuubey says 'I have not lied about a single thing. I am not allowed
to, by nature. Everything that has come from me has been the truth.
Everything I have said is the truth.'

Kyuubey seems to be putting emphasis, twice, on the part of 'said' in
his earlier statement.

Lenai says ' Not... Saying things... Makes contracts void...'

Lenai yawns loudly, and a single pillow flies out of the buster,
hitting Kyuubey with the strength of a little girl at a slumber party.

Kyuubey says 'According to whom. You? Find me the written logic of
your complaint, and I'll gladly nullify every contract I've ever made
with anyone.'

Kyuubey is hit fully with the pillow, and becomes buried under it, unmoving.

Lenai says ' ...Contracts have to, in full, be presented... To...
Someone before... They can accept it...'

Kyuubey is apparently trying to respond, but the pillow muffles
anything that comes out.

Lenai says ' ...'

Lenai lazily bats the pillow off of Kyuubey.

Lenai says ' What did you say..?'

Kyuubey says 'I said yes, normally, they do. When you present a
written contract of obligation and commitment, everything is there to
see. However, my contracts are not on paper. Therefore, what you
don't know, I don't know that you don't know, and thus you must ask
for the details before accepting. Once you accept, it is beyond my
ability to realize what of it you knew and did not know. It then
becomes your responsibility.'

Kyuubey sits up again, apparently satisfied with his logic.

Lenai says ' ...No, because you presented.. The contract... It is...'

Lenai falls asleep again.

Lenai wakes up and blinks.

Kyuubey says 'It is better this way, perhaps. Gifts should not be
wasted on those unwilling to see their value.'

Kyuubey speaks harshly, but without the tone to match it.

Lenai says ' Your responsibility... To present the contract... What
you presented they accepted.'

Lenai says ' So if you only said... You get a wish.. They wouldn't be
required to fight witches, because... The contra...'

Lenai says ' Contract! was only... To get a wish...'

Lenai says ' I'm too tired... To argue...'

Kyuubey says 'Just as well, then. We could go all day on this, and
you would retain your opinions and I mine. In the end, nothing is
achieved, and nothing is changed. The core idea is that you should
always look before you leap, I suppose. Or whatever that mortal
expression is.'

Kyuubey turns away, and starts heading back the way he came.

Lenai says ' Wait..!'

Lenai says ' Um... I have a... Question...'

Kyuubey stops, glancing over a furred shoulder. 'Then ask.'

Lenai says ' ...My gem... Broke.... Is that... Bad..?'

'Apparently not. I am just as confused as Kyrk. But no matter, it
isn't what happens afterward that matters. You wanted out of the
contract, and that is what you obtained.'

Lenai says ' ..Mm.. Come here...'

Lenai crawls toward Kyuubey in an attempt to snuggle him like a teddy bear.

Kyuubey says 'No thank you. I'll not be put under the same impression
that fell upon you from Kyrk's encounter. I feel our time together is
finished, for now.'

Kyuubey turns, swiftly padding away back toward the south, and away from Lenai.

Lenai says ' But I'm... Cold...'
